Dr. Edward H. Angle (1855-1930) is credited as one of the founding fathers of Orthodontics. He devoted his life designing, defining and refining orthodontic techniques. Dr. Angle developed many of the first orthodontic appliances and applications. These early efforts are the basis of modern orthodontics commonly used today. He began teaching orthodontics is 1892. He taught at several dental schools including Northwestern, Washington University, and Marion Sims Dental College. Angle also established an independent school devoted to teaching only Orthodontics. He opened his first school in St. Louis; with additional facilities in Pennsylvania and California opened at later dates. The list of over 150 men who graduated from the Angle School of Orthodontics reads like a “who’s who” of pioneers in this field. Dr’s Tweed, Dewey, Noyes, and other graduates who have made many significant contributions to the orthodontic community.
